Originally macro photography began with scientific research. Scientists developed this form of close-up photography by connecting cameras to microscopes. Photographers today are interested in capturing those same tiny details that can’t be seen with a normal lens to create vivid, larger than life images. In this class you will learn how to unlock this hidden world using simple methods and techniques.
By definition, macro photography, is photographing a subject at 1:1 magnification, or life-sized. Today, magnification can be larger than life sized and the term macro photography refers to any photo of a small object that is extremely close up and detailed. Macro photography is a niche, or specialty field, and there are options for a lot of specialized and expensive gear. However, you don’t have to spend a ton of money to get great macro images. We will show you how to created vivid images with inexpensive solutions.

Once you begin to use the methods demonstrated in this class, you will be able to capture amazing, intricately detailed images of anything from droplets of water to shells to bugs. You’ll never see the world in the same way.
Participants should bring one or two small items (4” or less in size) to class. Depending on class size and time, we will do some hands-on shooting with these objects for practice.
